Meru doesn't join the party at a time you really need more party members. She is also obviously geared towards magic with her high magical attack and magical defence. However Meru gains the most powerful addition and with her high speed, she can attack for more damage over time than many of the other characters. She also has a wide range of additions allowing for a little customization compared to other characters such as Kongol.
Meru doesn't offer any obvious benefits at first however if she is given time to level up, she can be a great asset. Her healing abilities together with her final addition and speed make her worthy of a spot on the front line.

Meru can potentially gain her Dragoon Spirit last and as consequence, her dragoon levels will be much lower than the rest of the party. Luckly, Meru has great help closing the gap. 'Cool Boogie' along with the weapon 'Pretty Hammer' will give Meru 300 SP per complete addition. Meru also comes with a great group healing spell, 'Rainbow Breath', which does not cost as much as 'Gates of Heaven.' Meru's Dragoon form boosts her physical attack and both defences which makes her even more formidable than before.
Unlike many of the party members, Meru has the largest amount of customization. She can be used to attack magically or with the right setup, she can become a physical asset. With a little patience leveling Meru up to make the levels of the rest of the party, she can fill in any gaps.
