Family

parents

"Honey, our ideas may be too old."

Meru was her parents' only child and together they likely had a normal family life. At some point her parents arranged with Guaraha's family to have the two children marry. Meru loved her them very much however her nagging desire to explore the world outside their forest eventually won out and she left them for the Human world. Both were understandably upset.

When Meru returned to the forest her parents were among the other Winglies that gather to protest her return. While her parents were silent at first, when Meru agreed to leave in order to maintain peace in their community, her mother called out. Unfortunately her father did not want to have anything to do with Meru anymore and that he extended that feeling to his wife. Meru was astonished that her father would say such things but understood his reasoning and again turned to leave the forest.

Meru met up with her parents when she returned to the Wingly Forest with her friends to ask for the Dragon Block Staff. Both her mother and father were caught between wanting to welcome back their daughter and obeying the laws of their people.

While Meru's mother quickly caved and accepted her daughter's actions, Meru's father took longer to understand that his daughter was more important than an old obsolete law. Meru was thankful for her parents' support and was glad she was able to make them understand.

bardel brothers

"You are the black sheep of the proud Winglies!"

The Bardel Brothers had a younger sister who was killed by humans. She wanted to be like Meru and explore the outside world however she met the darker side of humanity. The Brothers blamed Meru for influencing their sister and swore revenge. Meru's first return was met with anger. The brothers accused Meru of being the black sheep of the Winglies and that she should return to humans and die with them when they destroyed them.

When Meru returned with her friends in order to obtain the Dragon Block Staff, the Brothers threatened Dart, much to Rose's irritation. Dart also displayed his power as a Dragoon which subdued the older brother. The younger one was not willing to give up on his hate so easily.

The younger brother attacked Sacred Sister Wink in the Evergreen Forest however he was quickly killed by Lloyd. He returned once again during Meru's challenge in Aglis though this form was just an illusion. He demanded Meru's life in order for her to make amends however Meru explained she could not atone from the grave. She would make amends however she will be alive to do so.

ancestor blanco

"It must be hard for you, but you must go back, Meru."

Ancestor Blanco was in charge of protecting the entrance to the Forbidden Land and appeared to be the strongest Wingly in the settlement. When Meru first returned, Blanco explained to Meru that they were only following their laws and that her presence was upsetting everyone. He didn't actively punish Meru however he was not willing to break his own laws either. Blanco had no desire to harm Meru and would not let the others do so.

Blanco and Meru discussed Humans and Winglies. Blanco's opinion was that Humans would attack them because they were afraid of Wingly magic. Meru was able to understand this view and agreed to leave. Blanco did not try to push his opinion on Meru but would not concede immediately either.

When Miranda asked for permission to obtain the Dragon Block Staff, he was able to understand the situation and agreed to allow them to travel to the ruins of Kadessa. Living for over 400 years, Blanco came to understand Meru's mindset was the future of his people. Miranda and the other humans wanted the help of the Winglies to defend both their home and the Wingly Forest. Meru was right about there being good humans and bad humans. Blanco was willing to leave their laws behind and join the world again. All because Meru challenged them.
