Wingly

"Winglies are people with wings of light who employ magical power." Lenus with wings

The Winglies were the 107th species born from the Divine Tree. They were a more advanced form of Humans with wings of light as well as the ability to use magic. Notable traits included platinum hair and a long youthful life. Wingly magic was diverse and any element could be used. Force fields and fireballs were often seen however Winglies were also able to cast various spells using magic symbols.

Wingles also had the ability to sense souls as well as the earth surging in response to various events. Winglies were able to take over the judgment of the dead and directed souls to heaven or hell. This was primarily done with the technology created at Death City Mayfil. They could also use the power of nature to power their cities and homes. In the Wingly Forest, the settlement was powered using the life energy of trees. During the Dragon Campaign, it's possible Winglies used the life energy of all Endiness to power their cities.

rise to power

At some point, the Winglies learned of Soa's divine plan. Instead of working with the other species, the Winglies took it upon themselves to protect everyone and separated the Virage Embryo's soul from its body. They sealed the body as the Moon That Never Sets and created Signet Spheres to maintain that sphere. The soul remained trapped inside the Crystal Sphere that gave the Winglies immense power. This power corrupted many people including the Wingly Emperor Melbu Frahma. Instead of protecting all species, they began to lord over them and see themselves above Gods and Soa herself.

fall from grace

"Winglies have a power that Humans don't have. The Ancestor told me that the power draws a line between Humans and us." Wingly Forest

Humans rose up with the strength of Dragons against their Wingly Oppressors. Lead by Holy Emperor Diaz and his Dragoons Melbu Frahma was killed, his cities destroyed and the Winglies began their slow decline into obscurity. Pockets lived hidden from Humans. Charle Frahma led the largest settlement. Situated in Death Frontier, Ulara was safe from further wars. These Winglies froze time for themselves in penance for their species' crimes.

On the other hand, the Winglies of the Wingly Forest hid away in fear of being killed by Humans. Over time, those Winglies lost their power and were a far cry from their ancestors. Barely able to fly and with minimal magical powers, it was likely that over the next generations they would have lost their abilities to cast magic and fly completely.

meru's powers

Meru with wings

During the game, Meru did not initially reveal her Wingly heritage and kept any powers she might have had a secret. When she finally revealed herself, it became apparent that Meru could fly and maintained some ability to sense souls and feel the earth surge as it did when the Divine Dragon awoke. She was not all that powerful and did not appear to use any magic.

Meru's powers of flight come in handy during situations where flight is needed but Dragoons cannot be used, such as retrieving the Dragon Block Staff. As it is difficult for a Dragoon to transform outside of battle, Meru was capable of reaching high ledges without being transformed.
